Our 1st Parade

This may seem really bizarre but we took the kids to their 1st parade on Tuesday night. It is not bizarre that it was this week, but more so that they have never been to a parade. We did go to one parade in Madison with my Aunt Kathleen and Uncle Stan, but that was a very "different" Madison kind of parade. If you know of Madison you will understand what I am saying. :)

Appleton does a huge parade to kick off the holiday season and welcome Santa to the area. They always have it right before Thanksgiving. I had never been to it, but had heard so much about it. So, we decided to check it out this year with the kids.

It was a great nighttime parade. Lots of Christmas lights and music. They had marching bands from all of the local towns, fire engines, floats, horses, Alpaca's and even Snow Plows covered in Christmas lights. There was really nice fire that warmed the whole crowd. That came from the equipment that is used in Hot Air Balloons. This was the by far the kids favorite part. Of course aside from Santa finishing off the parade. It was a really neat parade that got us pumped up for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

That's a fantastic scarf!!!

Uncle Jim got Meggan this great scarf when he was in Australia. Meggan LOVES this scarf and wears it whenever it is cold outside. I can see it is going to be a staple in her wardrobe this winter.

Where did it come from??

This morning I woke up to SNOW! Yes, maybe to the WI folks this is nothing, but for an IL girl in November this is a shock. So, I got up and shoveled a good portion of it and left a little gift for Chad to finish it off. Of course, I would have used the snow blower if it had been in a place where I could get it out. But, Chad had it tucked away (probably not anticipating this snow). A lot of things make sense now. I had been seeing everyone had their snow blowers out and ready, shovels by lots of store doors and salt containers everywhere. I thought WOW they really get ready for the snow early. That is great. DUH!

The kids were a little cranky this morning, but then I told them to look out the window and see what had arrived. Jack was by far the most excited. He went around to the different bedrooms opening the shades to look. That was probably the quickest he has ever gotten up and ready. I went off to physical therapy and I came home to our friends, The Vosters, kids playing with Jack and Meggan in the backyard. Let the fun begin!!!!

Ally was not so sure. She never really played in the snow last year because she couldn't walk so it was hard to have to put her out in it. She kind of reminded me of the kid bundled up in the snowsuit of A Christmas Story. You all know the kid I am talking about. Don't you think she looks like that? I did see her picking up snow and eating it, so she gets that part of it. Now we just have to teach her to stay away from the yellow snow. YUCK!!

Now Maverick oh boy did he love it. He was crazy outside. So, I guess my folks have that to look forward to. He did not want to come inside either. So, that will be fun for them. LOL

No vension for you!

So, Chad is home from hunting. And he, his brother and cousins killed NOTHING. How is that possible you wonder. Well I have a few theories. Let me know what you think. :)

1) They had their cell phones and walk talkies going in their deer stands. Hmmm do you think the deer probably heard them and ran the other way???

2) Meggan was very very upset about Chad killing a deer. She really got it this year. So, she gave him an ultimatum that he better not kill any deer. But, that it was okay if he killed turkey instead. LOL Do you think subconsciously he heard her crying and did not want to kill anything? I think part of why she was so upset is that last week she went on a field trip to a nature center. They took them on a hike and Meggan's group saw a few doe wandering in the forest. Probably the closest she has ever come to the deer, aside from when they wander through our backyard.(Yes, this happens quite frequently!!)

Oh well! Maybe next year. Now we have to start rationing our hot sticks and summer sausage we have. Oh boy!

Ready for snow

Well because it is so cold up here I made the kids some Snowmen Pancakes. Plus, it made them excited to eat and took away from Chad being gone. What fun it was. They loved them. Of course now they want to have those every day.

Widow's Weekend

So, here is something new that I learned this week about Wisconsin. So, tomorrow marks the start of rifle hunting season and Chad is a hunter. Well apparently up here when the husband's all go hunting they call it Widow's weekend for all of the wives. Kind of funny I thought, since in IL they never talked about this. Of course in IL I did not know anyone that was a big hunter. So, that could be why. :)

Oh well, just a fun fact about WI hunters. :)

What a week...

So, I have not posted anything this week because it has just been a tough week. Lots of emotions with my sister's anniversary. Next week will be a better week I am sure. Anyway, thanks for all of the kind notes this week. It really meant a great deal!! My parents have gone away this year to Jamaica so they could be away from the daily reminders of what we went thru when the accident happened. But, again thanks for caring and showing your support!!! Love to all! Jen

In loving memory of my sister, Meggan

Today marks the 17th anniversary of my sister's, Meggan, tragic death. My cousin's, Mike, girlfriend and a dear friend to me, Stef, told me about this song by Kenny Chesney and pretty much hit the way I feel at this time of year and every year without her. Just wanted to share it with all.

Who You'd Be Today (By Kenny Chesney)
Sunny days seem to hurt the most
Wear the pain like a heavy coat
I feel you everywhere I go
See your smile, I see your face
I hear you laughing in the rain
Still can't believe your gone

It ain't fair you died to young
Like a story that had just begun
But death tore the pages all away
God knows how I miss you
All the hell that I've been through
Just knowing, no one could take your place
Sometimes I wonder, who you'd be today

Would you see the world
Would you chase your dreams
Settle down with a family
I wonder what would you name your babies
Some day's the sky's so blue
I feel like I can talk to you
And I know it might sound crazy

Today [3x]
Today [3x]

Sunny days seem to hurt the most
I wear the pain like a heavy coat
The only thing that gives me hope
Is I know, I'll see you again someday

Someday, someday

Welcome Maverick!!!

Yesterday we picked up my parents new puppy from the breeder where we got Sox from. He is sooo sweet. We took a bunch of pictures of him last night. We are going to have him for a couple weeks while they are gone on vacation. How dare they.... :)

He was born on 9/12/08 and is 9 1/2 weeks old. My dad named him Maverick because he thinks that is funny. He is a democrat for those that don't know. :) Meggan has given him a secret name of Ariel Tinkerbell. And she is really calling the puppy these names. But it is a secret so don't tell. :)

He slept in his kennel last night and did really well. He growled at me this morning when I woke him up to take him outside. So, that should be good for them. He is playing with an Old Chuckie doll and Bride of Chuckie doll that my brother, Jim, gave us for our wedding. So, looks like he will be taking those with him to Nama and Papa's house.

His personality is so sweet. He loves to cuddle and he loves to chew on anything and everything, including toes. He is getting to know Sox and we are not sure if Sox likes him at this point. He was pretty depressed last night as you can see in this picture.

We know that Sox will come around and take him under his paw and show him the ropes. Maverick was chasing Sox outside this morning which was quite funny to watch. Sox did not know what to do. This is how Sox was with Eddy when he came home.

Snuggle Bugs

I just love the days when the kids all get along and are happy to be around each other. LOL Here are some pics of the kids from Sunday night when we got home. There were lots of kisses and snuggles going on. So, sweet.

And of course then they thought it would be funny to take a picture of them all pretending to be asleep. Do you know any kids that smile as they sleep?? HAHA

Congrats to Adrina and Ryan Sheehan!

My cousin, Adrina, got married this past weekend. She married a great Irish lad, Ryan. We are so glad to have him in the family. He is a great addition!!! Meggan was one of the flower girls in the wedding. It was a bit hairy before the wedding because she was a bit tired, but she pulled thru and did an AWESOME job! My brother, Jim, did the mass which of course made it even more special for the family. This was our first family wedding since Chad and I got married 6 years ago.

The wedding had a great Italian/Irish mix to it. There was an AMAZING sweet table which is traditional in the Italian weddings. I have never seen anything like it. There was a night full of dancing as you will see from the slide show I have posted. Our kids hung in there until almost the end of the reception. It was amazing. They danced in their outfits and then later on in PJs. Ally was like the energizer bunny. She kept going and going and going. God bless them!

Congrats Adrina and Ryan! We look forward to watching you guys grow old together!!!!

Happy Halloween!!!

Well Halloween has come and gone and what a year it was! We had a great time trick or treating with the kids and their Nama and Papa. Meggan went as a Princess and my girl friend Sue made her costume. If you are looking for a seamstress she is the one to go to!!! Click here to go to her website. Jack was Wall-E the robot and Ally was a monkey.
So, it was quite fun. Ally was at a cute age because she was trying to trade the candy instead of just continuing to get more. And of course she was eating the candy as we walked around. Could not get enough of it. She has quite the sweet tooth. Jack on the other hand was in such a hurry and we couldn't figure out why. Well turns out he wanted to be able to hand out candy to all the trick or treaters. So, he basically stood on our sidewalk handing stuff out.

My neighbor also had a kids party on Friday night that we went to then and the kids played all kinds of games like bobbing for apples, scavenger hunt, pin the face on Jack (O-Lantern). It was very funny. Then on Saturday we took a ride in the country with Nama and Papa, so that they could get a puppy. Yep, you heard it here! My dad picked out a sweet little Yorkie Bischon Frieze. It is brown with straight hair. He is saying he is going to call it Maverick, but we are all trying to talk him out of that. He think it would be funny because we are not fans of McCain and Palin. I think it should be Mac, but we will see. This dog snuggled right into my dad's arm. It was really cute! He is 7 weeks old. He has something going on with his eye but the breeder is taking him to the vet to get it checked and then he will come stay with us for a couple weeks and then we will bring him down to my folks. Oh what fun they will have with him.

Then on Saturday night Chad and I went to an adults Halloween party in the neighborhood. Oh what a ball that was!!! So, we went as anatomically correct stick figures. This is the best picture we could get in the dark and it is actually not bad. Our dog Sox was completely freaked out by this, but it was funny. We also had butt cheeks in the back. And for some reason Chad thought it would be hilarious to have mine be bigger than his. How nice!!

Reminded me of the Halloween parties I used to go to with my Hewitt Friends. Right down to TPing a house. Yes, you read that right. Jack and Meggan were very upset with us that we put toilet paper on some one's house. It was quite funny while we were doing it!!! But, Jack and Meggan did go out in the morning and help the kids clean it up, so that wasn't too bad. But they (meaning Jack and Meggan) did scold us for doing it. But, for the record we were not the only ones that did the TPing. :)

Of course now today as the day as gone on I have lost my voice. Yep, that is quite funny. Kids don't get where it went and keep asking me.
